"B.E" PR Director, SAKI’s event report! - Vol.001

Finally, "B.E 2nd Event" was held on March 1st at Silent Movie Theater! I was so excited and couldn’t eat much from yesterday because for me, this event was the first time as a member. Anyways, as you may know, this event was composed of two sessions—Screening and Networking, and Chisako Yokoyama came to the event as a guest speaker. In the screening session, three short films were screened and Ms. Yokoyama gave a comment to each film. Afterwards, networking session started at the patio, located in behind the theater. Having an introducing game, all of the participants made some connections, and the pleasant time amazingly passed by so fast. Fortunately, many people came to this event and I heard that they enjoyed this event at the end.

By greeting from Miyuki Matsunaga, who is a host for this event, the screening session started. The first short film was “DOCKWEILER” from AFI student. The questionable theme reminded me of how hard people control themselves to be a person whom they want to be. After the screening, four crew members showed up on a stage, and answered the questions that Miyuki asked. Ms. Yokoyama gave a comment as well.

The second short film was “THERMAE 2'40"”, which was Italian short film. I felt as if I was in such a mysterious world, and there was no doubt that all scenes were unbelievably beautiful. As the same as the first movie, the crew—director and main actress—came up on the stage and had a Q & A time with Miyuki. Again, Ms. Yokoyama said her opinion for them.

Before the third short film started, director of JFF, Aki Mizuno, made a speech for upcoming JFF event. Actually, the third film, “The 8th Samurai” is a winner for a special collaboration project with JFF. The witty but sad story always made me cry; meanwhile, it encourages me as well, as though it said “this is the start and don’t give up on you”. After the screening, Miyuki asked some questions and Ms. Yokoyama gave a comment. She also made a short speech about her carrier in Hollywood film industry. We listened to how the editing technique has been developed from the time when she started working, and it’s important to know the skills of using not only digital, but films. I think her story must be interesting for filmmakers and even for people who are just interested in the film as well.

In the networking session, there were some foods and drinks. The participants ate them while they were talking to someone. For shy people or to make film-friends more, the introducing game, called “Circle de Introduce” was held. As the main concept of B.E, the networking is really significant point; thus, almost all participants joined in the game and introduced each other. The rule was simple. Just make two circle—inner and outer—, and then, the participant talks to a person whom they face. Honestly, the patio was not big, so it was a little hard to make circles and move. However, the place was filled with chatting and laughing. Unexpectedly, the time passed by so quickly; thus, even thought the theater was closed at 10 p.m., many participants still talked outside.

Overall, this event was successfully finished thanks to many staff, supporter and the participants. B.E members and, of course, I will put this experience learned from B.E 2nd to next event. B.E 3rd will be held soon! And, I promise it’s gonna be the big event that you never ever go!
